Where the River Matanuska Flows is an excellent companion piece to our documentary feature film Alaska Far Away: The New Deal Pioneers of the Matanuska Colony.

Where the River Matanuska Flows is not a traditional documentary film. It is simply the story of the Matanuska Colony as told by the people who built it, and who lived it.  The three hours of material - interviews with people we filmed during the making of Alaska Far Away - are organized in short chapters, so you can enjoy this film as you would a book – a chapter at a time, or all at once.  Their memories form an extraordinary archive of the Great Depression, the New Deal, and an important time in the development of Alaska and the United States.

Note for educators: This film is designed to make it possible to show a short chapter (most are 8-12 minutes in length) in the classroom, and build a lesson plan around the subject. Our films are being used in classrooms from fourth grade through college.

Where the River Matanuska Flows is a two-disc set.
Bonus features include music and scenic footage of the town of Palmer and the Matanuska Valley today.
